This floating pool is used for research and development (R&D) activities as well as technical works such as testing the suitability of using personal protective equipment and others. The tests carried out are as follows:

The work carried out by this laboratory is as follows:

• Perform a welder qualification test (welder qualification test) for welders who will perform welding work on TLDM ships
• Helping the TLDM inspect the quality of welding done on government assets such as ship hulls in particular and other welded construction materials in general
• Perform a plate thickness inspection test (thickness measurement) by using thickness gauges to find out the current thickness if it can still be used or needs to be replaced.
• Conducting radiographic tests on exocet missiles & torpedoes to detect any defects found in the internal structure
